Description
Synthetic amino acid precursor that acts as a prodrug for the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and adrenaline. Unlike norepinephrine and adrenaline, droxidopa can penetrate the protective blood-brain barrier.
Indications for use
Neurogenic orthostatic hypotension, as well as hypotension associated with multiple system atrophy (Shy-Drager syndrome), familial amyloid polyneuropathy, primary autonomic failure and Parkinson's disease (PD). Intradialytic hypotension or hemodialysis-induced hypotension. Hypotension associated with fibromyalgia syndrome and chronic fatigue syndrome.

For the treatment of movement disorders, dizziness when standing up, caused by Parkinson's disease:
Adults, start with 100 mg. once a day. Increase the dose by 100 mg. every other day, and then decide on the optimal daily dosage. The standard optimal daily dose is 200 mg. 3 times a day, but the dose can be adjusted according to age and symptoms. The maximum dose is 900 mg. per day. Strictly follow the instructions of your doctor/pharmacist.
For the treatment of orthostatic hypotension, syncope, dizziness on standing caused by multiple system atrophy (Shy-Drager syndrome) or familial amyloid polyneuropathy:
Adults, start with 200-300 mg daily, divided into 2-3 doses. Increase the dose by 100 mg daily every 7 days, and then decide on the optimal daily dosage. The usual optimal daily dose is 100-200 mg 3 times daily, but the dose may be adjusted according to the disease, age and symptoms. The maximum dose is 900 mg daily. Carefully follow the instructions of your doctor/pharmacist.
For the treatment of nausea and dizziness on standing up, fatigue and tiredness in patients on hemodialysis and patients with orthostatic hypotension:
Adults take 200-400 mg 30-60 minutes before hemodialysis, but the dose may be reduced according to age and symptoms. The maximum dose is 400 mg at a time. Follow your doctor/pharmacist's instructions carefully.
Take with water.
Warnings
Allow at least 4 hours between doses (if taking 3 times a day).
DO NOT take a double dose to make up for missed doses. If you are taking this medicine for dizziness, lightheadedness on standing up, fatigue and tiredness in hemodialysis or orthostatic hypotension and you realize you have missed a dose before starting hemodialysis, take the missed dose as soon as possible.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children. Keep away from direct sunlight.
